Robert Allan Popp's Obituary
POPP, Robert Allan, age 81, of Bellbrook, passed away Thursday, January 18, 2024.
Robert graduated from Washington High School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, class of ’60. For the majority of his life, he worked as a press operator and manager in the metal stamping business. At the young age of 26, Robert was sent from Wisconsin to Dayton to open a new shop. He was very proud of being able to start the new plant and being able to have it up and running successfully for over 35 years. He retired in 2005 from Winco Stamping of Dayton. He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Kettering.
One of his favorite hobbies was tinkering with items. He was well known for being able to build and fix anything. Intelligent, yet quiet, Robert had a great sense of humor. He loved to play games and tease those he loved. Often times sharing private inside jokes; he was quite a character. If you got him on the right topic, he would talk up a storm. He was a movie buff and especially loved Star Trek and A Christmas Carol. Family was the bedrock to his life. Robert loved them dearly. When the kids were young, they had a ritual of every Saturday morning he would make the kids waffles and watch cartoons. Then when breakfast was done, he would create a big bowl of popcorn and they would watch Creature Feature all together in the afternoon. When growing up, the family would take adventures to the “40” which was in Northern Wisconsin. They would soak up the nature surrounding them, enjoy camping, and hiking. During Christmas, Robert with his wife, Linda, would decorate the house and put-up lights, making it look nice and festive. Halloween was one of his favorite holidays. He would put six or seven candy bars in each individual bag for the kids that would stop by their house. Over the years, he has accumulated a collection of German beer steins and trains. He loved music records and kept Columbia House in business. He always had music playing at the shop and the Christmas music would start up right after Thanksgiving. Among many things, he will be remembered for his flannel shirts that he wore year-round, the sound advice that he would always provide, and his ability to fix whatever was needed.
He was preceded in death by his great-grandson, James A. Popp; his parents, Carl and Ruby Popp; sister, Carlyn Kraemer; brothers-in-law, Robert Wanderer and Jack Kraemer; nephew, Michael Wanderer; and sister-in-law, Linda Popp. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Linda; one son, Carl (Tammy) Allan Popp Sr.; two daughters, Teresa L.
