Sally Cunningham's Obituary
CUNNINGHAM, Sally, age 73, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Miami Valley Hospital- South.
Sally graduated from Xenia High School, class of ’70. She worked in special education at the Ohio Veterans’ Children’s Home in Xenia for ten years. She also worked as a receptionist, secretary, and office manager in the Xenia and Oakwood area for twenty years. She officially retired from Premier Health- Primary Care in Centerville in 2021.
Holidays were special to her; she loved decorating, hosting everyone at the house, and, more importantly, cooking for everyone. It became a tradition for Christmas Eve to be a time when the family gathered to enjoy hors d’oeuvres, cocktails, and a big family sleepover. Her holiday meals were something everyone looked forward to. Cooking was her specialty, and she was well known for her talent in preparing a variety of cuisines. She had a natural gift for entertaining and paid attention to the smallest details.
During the spring, her passion turned to the planting season, and she couldn’t wait to take care of her flower gardens and flowerpots. She was a natural green thumb gardener. Sally enjoyed sitting outside and taking in the quiet embrace of nature, especially if that meant sitting on her back patio. She enjoyed taking advantage of happy hour cocktails with her friends and continuing to build their friendship.
Selfless, she was always putting the needs of others before her own. She was deeply compassionate towards her family, friends, and strangers. She had a pure, sweet soul that shared her happiness with those surrounding her. Her huge heart allowed her to find joy in taking care of others. She would go out of her way to brighten someone’s day. Her greatest pride and joy was becoming a mother and grandmother. She loved her family fiercely. She was very active in watching her kids and grandchildren play youth, high school, and college sports. She loved spending time with her family.
Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Joanne Johnson, and brother-in-law, Chris Brookshire. She is survived by her two sons, Jake (AJ) Ault and Tyler (Amy) Cunningham; one daughter, Adrienne Lewis; eight grandchildren, Gabrielle, Ariana, Ashton, Brody, Nadia, Chance, Nora, and Eva; one brother, David (Hannah Kinnersley) Johnson; one sister, Cathy Johnson-Brookshire; her ex-husband, James Cunningham; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
