Sarah "Jane" Osborn's Obituary
OSBORN, Sarah “Jane”, age 101, of Bellbrook, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
Jane was first and foremost a devoted Mother and Grandmother, enjoying no other thing more than being a part of her family; seeing her son on life’s adventurous journey and watching her grandkids as they grew and explored life’s adventures anew. She was a very good cook, but her grandkids said it best when they commented that “to Grandma, cooking is love”. She was always making everyone’s favorite meals and dishes for them. She also enjoyed reading. She read every day; magazines, newspapers, and books. She loved to read about ways to better health and loved her mystery books. She played Solitaire daily and cherished playing Uno and Old Maid with the family. She also enjoyed sewing, created some beautiful blankets, and had a collection of thimbles that she had accumulated over the years. She played the piano in her house, enjoying traditional songs and church hymns. She was first a member of Aero Chapter #536, Order of Eastern Star in Fairborn, and then at Jacob Eby Chapter #571, in West Carrollton.
She had a strong but gentle personality, never wanting to hurt anyone. She loved kids and animals. Her family was her pride and joy, and she spent her entire life living for them. She relished any chance she got to watch her son, and her grandchildren grow and experience new opportunities. She looked forward to the holidays, especially for the scavenger hunts that her son would create for her grandchildren. Each time she would hold one of the clues and loved to be part of the event. For years, she maintained an immaculate garden filled with tomatoes, radishes, onions, peppers, potatoes, and lettuce. Jane had a great green thumb and also had a beautiful flower garden full of petunias and roses. She was well known for her cooking skills. She made some of the best scalloped potatoes, apple dip, and apple pie. She looked forward to family gatherings when they would gather around the table and enjoy their favorite dishes. Among many things, she will be remembered for the love and pride she had for her son and grandchildren.
Jane was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ernest Osborn, Sr.; her parents, John Nelson Hanaway and Alice Jensen; and her two brothers, William and Nelson Hanaway. She is survived by her son, Ernest Osborn, Jr. (Rebecca Latham); two grandchildren, Robbie Osborn and Shannon Osborn; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
A celebration of life service will be 1 pm on Tuesday, July 15 at Conner & Koch Funeral Home in Bellbrook. Pastor Damion Sneed will be officiating. Burial will be at Bellbrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11 am – 1 pm on Tuesday at the funeral home. Flowers and plants are welcome, but Jane would also be honored, if desired, by contributions made to the Humane Society of Greene County, Disabled American Veterans, or the Salvation Army.
