Susie (Blank) Smith's Obituary
A saucy and stubborn woman with a servant's heart, Susan "Susie" (Blank) Smith, age 67, of Xenia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, August 30th, 2020.
Susie was born on January 17th, 1953 to Frances (Rasper) Blank and Lowell Blank. Susie graduated from Bellbrook High School in 1971 and was a dedicated member of Bethel Lutheran Church serving in many roles for many years. In 1994, she married Jerry Smith who she met at Peace Lutheran Church while living in Florida. They moved back to her hometown where she worked for over 15 years as an office administrator for her friend, Jeri O'Dell.
Susie was a great mom, and an even better grandma. She taught simple yet powerful life lessons to her children. She loved to spend time and spoil her grandkids. Showering them in gifts and teaching them to craft and bake. She was happy to do whatever they wanted. Susie loved to garden. From vegetables to exotic plants and flowers, if a seed could be planted; she'd make it grow. She enjoyed her fresh vegetables from her garden and incorporating them into her latest recipes with her love for cooking. She had an amazing ability to gather and unite all of her family for eventful get-togethers with amazing food and unforgettable stories. Susie also loved all the textile arts, quilting, crotchet, and rug hooking. She was gifted at producing useful things with her own two hands.
Susie loved the great outdoors and found beauty in all of God’s creation. She loved camping, hiking, identifying birds and trees, and finding heart shaped rocks for her garden. The family enjoyed numerous trips over the years to Black Mountain, Caesar’s Creek, Brown County, Red River Gorge, and many other beautiful spots. Susie was a devoted follower and fan of the Cincinnati Reds, a caring Sunday school teacher, a lover of Longaberger baskets, and Christmas music. Her selfless and caring spirit, will leave a large hole in the many lives of all those that knew her.
Susie will be deeply missed, especially when it’s time for a family camping trip or get together, by her husband of 26 years, Jerry Smith, children Justin Bogue (Emily), Margaret Smith White, Deanna Smith (Ryan), and Tyler Bogue (Emmy), grandchildren Amelia Hass, Vale, and Sawyer Bogue, Dagny and Rori White, Chandler Brown, and Kaden and Owen Bogue, brother Craig Blank (Christy), nephews Neal Blank (Beth) and their children Annie and Avery, and Travis Blank (Brooke) and their son Logan, as well as many other family members and friends.
