Terry L. Meents' Obituary
MEENTS, Terry L., age 89, of Dayton, passed away on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Wood Glen Alzheimer’s Community.
Terry honorably served as a Master Sargent E8 in the United States Army for over 20 years. Following his military career, he spent an additional 10 years as a rural mail carrier for the USPS in Indiana, officially retiring in 2001. He was a member of the Refuge Hill Church in Kettering.
Terry was a wonderful son, husband, father, and grandfather. Very easy-going and trustworthy, he was the rock-solid foundation on which his family could rely. At times, he could be stubborn, and if he didn’t like your decision, he was known for saying, “So be it!” Being very organized, he was very particular about how to take out his trash. In his quiet ways, he would show you how everything that was given to him was precious in his eyes and that no matter what, he would always be there for his family and loved ones. His love of obscure foods has been passed down to his sons and now grandchildren. Every Christmas, it was a must that he had indulged in a fruit cake, and throughout the year, he enjoyed cranberries and pickles. Terry looked forward to the many family gatherings during the holidays and any time the family had the opportunity to play cards together. His graduating class from high school was only 13 individuals; this allowed him to become very close with each of them. He cherished attending school reunions and catching up with everyone. His passion was antique John Deere tractors, which he collected and restored. He enjoyed collecting a wide range of items, from toys as a child to calendars, owner’s manuals, and even John Deere magazines.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lena Meents, and his two sisters, Rosalie Mabbit and Henrietta Rice. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Billie; his two sons, Brian (Shanon Lowman) Meents and Steven (Elizabeth) Meents; four grandchildren, Jack Meents, Hayleigh Meents, Sloane Meents, and Ashleigh Meents; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 10 am on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the Dayton National Cemetery. Conner & Koch Funeral Home in Bellbrook is serving the family. If desired, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Ohio’s Hospice of Dayton. Condolences at www.connerandkoch.com.
