Delmar was born October 29, 1937 in Westville, Florida to Ruby (Benton) and William Angus Gainey. He grew up in Panama City, Florida, the oldest of three boys, and graduated from Bay High School. He continued his education at GMI in Flint, Michigan. While studying there, Delmar co-oped at Delco Products in Dayton. After his co-op, he studied History and Education at the University of Dayton where he earned a bachelors degree. While in Dayton, he met his future wife, Carol (Bainter) through mutual friends. Throughout the years, Delmar enjoyed fishing and being a member and Past Master of the Masonic Lodge #147, Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton, Epiphany Lutheran Church, and the Arabic Club. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and together they sailed away on cruise ships, flew to Hawaii, and toured London with their daughter and her family. Delmar was an avid sports fan, holding season tickets and tailgating at Bengals games and rooting for the Big Red Machine. As a Golden Flyer (50 year graduate), he was also a loyal U.D. fan, and was particularly happy to watch the Flyers beat Ohio State during March Madness earlier this year. Delmar enjoyed being able to attend all the sporting events of his grandchildren, from basketball to cheerleading, He and Carol were at nearly every game. He worked the last 10 years for his daughter's company, Expo Experts, and enjoyed talking with and making friends over the phone. Delmar is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Carol, son Marc Gainey and wife Kris, daughter Carrie Dunham and husband Scott, grandchildren Theo & Drew Gainey, and Molly & Abby Dunham, brothers Bill Gainey and wife Paulette, and John Gainey, mother-in-law Lois Bainter, sister-in-law Penny Lang and husband Dick, nephews Matt Gainey and Luke Hart, nieces Michelle & Chris Barker, Debra & Dennis Horimoto, Kaye & Dale Jones, and Ellen Hart.
