Benjamin "Benny" Ulmer's Obituary
An active community member, loyal and committed dad and husband, Benjamin "Benny" Ulmer, age 70, of Bellbrook, passed away Saturday, May 27th, 2017 at Kettering Medical Center.
He was born February 13th, 1947 in Bucyrus, Ohio to Clara (Fisher) Ulmer and Ervin Ulmer. Benny was very patriotic. He served his country with honor in the U.S. Marine Corps., serving two tours, during the Vietnam War. Benny was a graduate of Buckeye Central High School. He earned his bachelors degree in Finance from Franklin University, Columbus, and his masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Dayton. Benny retired from General Electric in 2007 after 22 years of employment.
Benny loved the outdoors. He enjoyed tent camping, OSU games, Kings Island, and repairing and selling cars. Benny was active in the community. He could be seen delivering U.S. flags to the graves at the cemetery during national holidays, and delivering wreaths and other greenery during the Christmas holiday.
Benny was very active in the Boy Scouts Troop #75 Bellbrook and the Tecumseh Council. He held many leadership positions in the Bellbrook Lions Club, member of Masonic Lodge #147 Dayton, member of Scottish Rite Valley of Dayton and the Antioch Shrine Marching Patrol.
He was preceded in death by his father Ervin Ulmer; mother Clara Ulmer Dick; step-father WIlbur Dick; sister Bonnie Studer, and nephew Michael Studer. Benny is survived by his wife of 47 years, Roberta (Benedict) Ulmer; daughter Ann "Betsy" Fassel (Craig) of Westerville, Ohio and son Andrew Ulmer (Bobbie McTurner) of Wyoming, Ohio; four grandchildren Abby & Max Fassel, Harper and Danica Ulmer; brother Eugene Ulmer (Norma) of South Dakota, and many nieces and nephews..
To help celebrate his life, you are invited to a gathering of family and friends on Thursday June 1st from 5-8 pm at Conner & Koch Life Celebration Home, 92 W. Franklin St., Bellbrook. Masonic Lodge services at 8:00 pm. A graveside service will be held Friday, June 2nd at 11:00 am at Bellbrook Cemetery, 4646 Upper Bellbrook Rd., Bellbrook. A reception will follow at the Bellbrook Presbyterian Church, 72 W. Franklin St, Bellbrook, OH.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Shriners Hospital, 107 E. First St, Dayton, Ohio 45402 or Bellbrook Lions Club, PO Box 111, Bellbrook, Ohio 45305.
