I learned today that a dear friend went to heaven . Darlene Henkener was a nurse for Xenia Community Schools when I first began teaching. She was so supportive to a new teacher. When I had a student who needed new glasses, she would find someone to donate them. If a student needed to go to the dentist, she not only went to the family to get permission, she’d find a donor to pay the bill. If I had a student who needed new shoes or clothes , I’d find a bag of items on my desk. She’d tell me that I was a young mother with children of my own and I needed to take care of them first. She’d reassure me that she knew people who would love to help. She was a true gift to the staff and children of Xenia Schools. I’m thankful that I was blessed to have the love, support and friendship of such a beautiful woman. I am so sad to hear of your mother’s passing.
