Darlene A Henkener's Obituary
Henkener, Darlene Ann, age 87, of Springfield and longtime resident of Bellbrook, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Brookdale of Beavercreek.
Darlene graduated from Valparaiso University. In addition, she earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Education from Central State University in Wilberforce, Ohio, and an RN degree from the Lutheran School of Nursing in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She was a very devoted Lutheran and had a passion for the gospel all her life. For 30 years, she was a certified school nurse for Xenia Community Schools. During the Xenia tornado of 1974, she devoted many volunteer hours to help clean up and assist families. She was very proud of being the Queen of the Nile for the Shriners of Dayton.
Friendly and cheerful, Darlene had a very outgoing spirit. She loved to talk and was a social butterfly. She loved working in her flower gardens. She was very dedicated to her family, a wonderful mother, and someone you could always count on. She was very proud of her two boys and her marriage of 51 years to Dale Henkener. Darlene and Dale loved to travel together. They traveled all over Europe, South America, and the country. Each year, they would go traveling, boating, and fishing as a family. They were always doing things as a family, and those moments will always be cherished. She looked forward to every holiday because it meant the family would be together.
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, Dale L. Henkener, in 2009; one son, Bradley Lewis Henkener; daughter-in-law, Nancy Henkener; parents, Walter and Mary Margaret Yahl; one brother, Walter (Virginia) Yahl; brother-in-law, Richard Burd. She is survived by her son, Matthew Henkener, and sister, Sandra Burd.
The burial and graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 31, at Bellbrook Cemetery. If desired, contributions may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children. Condolences at www.connerandkoch.com.
