Ray, Ernest Earl
age 81, of Springfield, passed away Thursday October 6, 2016. He was born August 1, 1935 in Sabina, Ohio to Grace Elizabeth (Butterfield) and Howard Everett Ray. He was a member of East Dayton Church of Christ, N.R.A., Greene County Fish & Game, and a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 40 years. He formerly worked for Monarch Marking Systems, Miamisburg, Ohio and retired from Evans Rule in Charleston, South Carolina where he held the position of Plant Engineer. He loved the Cincinnati Reds especially during the Big Red Machine days. He enjoyed woodworking and used to make ornaments for family and friends every Christmas. He will be remembered for his Christian character, steady and consistent support of his family, and his peacemaking heart. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Glen Ray. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Winnie, three children, Faith Sexton, Richard Ray, and Bob Ray (Janice); three grandchildren, Misty Savage (Tim), Leslie Delong (Sam), and Jonah Ray; three great-grandchildren, Cameron, Austin and Job; sister Ella Mae Gaines (Lee); sister-in-law, Shirley Ray; Winnie's brother, Lewis Gingell; and sister Patricia (Roger) Stemen; and several nieces and nephews. You are encouraged to wear Cincinnati Reds attire as you attend Ernie's visitation on Monday October 10th from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at East Dayton Church of Christ, 3415 Linden Ave., Dayton. Life celebration services will follow at 1:00 pm with Scott VanDyke officiating. Burial in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
