JoAnn Crum's Obituary
CRUM, JoAnn, age 75, of Dayton, passed away on Thursday, August 28, 2025.
JoAnn was born on January 5, 1950, to Hiram and Opal Sizemore in Hyden, Kentucky. She moved to the Dayton area when she was five years old. She graduated from Belmont High School, class of ’68. For over 30 years, she worked as a clerk, first with the social security office and more recently with the United States Bankruptcy Court, officially retiring in 2018. She was a member of The Church at Eastmont, formerly known as East Dayton Baptist Church, for 66 years.
Sweet, kind, and thoughtful, JoAnn always knew how to make you feel cared for. When her daughters were growing up, she always had peony bushes in the backyard. She would cut bouquets of peonies and have the girls take them to school for their teachers. She loved shopping and finding the best deals, especially at malls and outlet malls. She enjoyed working on jigsaw puzzles and was always up for the challenge of finding the last piece to complete them.
Family was everything to JoAnn. Her first great-grandson was a big source of joy in the last few months. She loved going on family vacations and was an avid supporter of all her grandkids' events. She especially cherished family vacations to Manitoulin Island, Ontario, and fondly reminisced about the time spent fishing with loved ones on Lake Kagawong. The yearly family reunions were a must, and she looked forward to the family outing each year. It became a tradition to travel to Gatlinburg and visits to the beach. During visits to the beach, she would sit in the beach house and catch up with everyone. Christmas was one of her favorite holidays because it brought all the family together. Among many things, she will be remembered for the love and pride she had in her two daughters, grandchildren, and extended family members.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her loving husband, Markley “Mark” Crum, in 2022; her parents, Hiram and Opal Sizemore; and her brother-in-law, Joseph Whitesell. She is survived by her two daughters, Jennifer (Jason) Daws and Amanda Glynn; three granddaughters, Sydney, Eileen, and Gabrielle Glynn; one great-grandson, Hank Curless; her brother, Randy (Connie) Sizemore; three sisters, Eveylyn Whitesell, Anna Sue Mullins, and Robyn (Don) Barker; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held at 12 pm on Wednesday, September 3, at The Church at Eastmont in Dayton. David Faile will be officiating. Burial will follow at Byron Cemetery in Fairborn. The family will receive friends from 10 am -12 pm on Wednesday at the church. Conner & Koch Funeral Home in Bellbrook is serving the family. If desired, contributions may be made to the Samaritan’s Purse International Relief ministry. Condolences at www.connerandkoch.com.
