"A tough, strong, and capable man with a big, dependable heart, Joe A. Doepel, age 87, of Miamisburg, passed away on Wednesday, September 16th, 2020. He’s having a great big family reunion in heaven right now.

Joe was born January 24th, 1933 to Harmon Doepel and Mae (McCall) Doepel in Chevrolet, Kentucky. After graduating from Hall High School, Joe joined the United States Air Force. He was stationed in different places all over the world and that is where he met his Irish bride of nearly 65 years. He was honored to serve his country in Vietnam. At the rank of Master Sergeant, he retired after 22 years of service to his country, Following his military career, he became employed as a Machinist at General Motors where he worked for over 20 years. He loved his work and was always able to design and build a tool for any job or function.

Joe had a strong fondness for the outdoors, particularly fishing, and always liked to keep busy, from maintaining a pristine yard to activities with the family, he never slowed down. He loved to restore cars, teaching the kids and grandkids many of his tricks along the way. He completed work on many cars over the years including a '66 Stingray, '57 T-Bird, a handful of MGB’s and a '95 Del Sol. For many years, the family enjoyed going to Gatlinburg annually for the car show.

His knowledge wasn't just limited to cars, he also taught each of the grandkids how to fish and swing a bat. He enjoyed many trips to Ceaser's Creek for fishing, boating, skiing, and tubing, and was even able to take similar trips to Michigan. Joe also loved Baseball, always following the Reds and any team one of the kids was playing on, even playing himself on a co-ed softball team until the age of 75.

He was an amazing golfer, dog-lover, a story-teller, a problem solver, and a truly cherished man. While in the military, his travels allowed him to pursue his passion for fishing in both fresh and saltwater, where he caught salmon, trout, bass, gar, tuna, cobia, blue fish, tarpon, etc.

Joe's dependability, willingness to help, and unabashed love for life will be missed by his wife, Sarah (Baxter) Doepel, children Allen (Jill Gibbs-Doepel) Doepel, Sande (Tony) Parrott, and Angi (Sol) Gomez, grandchildren Trisha Doepel, Kent Doepel, Jesse (Michelle) Parrott, Mark (Angel) Parrott, Michael (Morgan) Gomez, Stephanie (Corey Smith) Gomez, and Alexis Gomez, great-grandchildren Cohen, Lucas, Livia, Abby, Julia, Mark, Liam, Riley, Easton, Solo, Lincoln, and Mia, and siblings Jim (Sherry) Doepel and Revina Doepel-Pizzino.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents Harmon and Mae Doepel, siblings Ernest Doepel, R.T. Doepel, Delena Ramey, and Regina Moore.

You are invited to share stories and remember Joe during a Celebration of Life service at SouthBrook Christian Church at Reverie Chapel (9095 Washington Church Rd. Miamisburg, OH 45342) on Monday, September 21st at 11:00 am.
