Mark L. Barkalow
Mark was born February 27, 1925 in Germantown to Edna Mae (Ebberts) and Chester Barkalow. He grew up on the family farm before graduating from Germantown High School. He served his country with honor in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Philippines. Mark earned an associates degree in accounting from Miami Jacobs College. He helped set up the data process center and worked as the Data Center Manager at Reynolds & Reynolds 40 years before retiring. He was a faithful member of Ohmer Park United Methodist Church for almost 70 years, attended Bellbrook United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jay Cee’s). Mark loved golfing, especially at Jamaica Run since it was formerly his family farm but also enjoyed playing at Community Golf Course as well as various other golf courses. He also enjoyed bicycling and visiting the Air Force Museum. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Miriam Gehres. Mark is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy “Dottie” (Brush) Barkalow, two daughters Barbara Watkins ( Robert), Joyce Reynolds (David), five grandchildren Adam, Sarah (Matt), Mark (Cheryl), Allison (Brendan) and Robin, three great-grandsons Brandon, Landon and Nathan, one sister Delores Clark and seven nieces and nephews. There will be a gathering of family and friends Saturday December 6th from 1-2 pm at CONNER & KOCH Life Celebration Home, 92 W. Franklin St., Bellbrook (937-848-6651). A life celebration will follow at 2:00 pm with Chaplain Craig Schneider officiating. You are welcome to linger and attend the family and friends reception where we will enjoy some of Mark’s favorites; Esther Price chocolates, mixed nuts, root beer and coffee.
