Marlene S. Schaaf's Obituary
SCHAAF, Marlene S., age 78, of Tipp City and formerly of Huber Heights, slipped away peacefully in the middle of the night on Monday, July 15, 2024.
Marlene graduated from Carroll High School in Dayton, class of ’65. She was part of the first graduating class, where her nickname was “Marty.”
She worked as a Dayton Daily News distributor, a freelance floral designer, and Meijer UFCW #75, where she retired in May 2003 after more than ten years of service. She was a member of the Barefoot Buccaneers CB Radio Club, the local card club, and the Red Hat Society.
She immensely enjoyed crafting, crocheting, floral arrangements, and diamond beads. Marlene’s love language was cooking, and she loved cooking for everyone. With an outgoing and bubbly personality, she never met a stranger. If you wanted something, she always made sure that you got it. Christmas was her absolute favorite holiday, and she loved the family getting together. She looked forward to dressing up for different holidays. She especially enjoyed visiting Santa Clause School in Frankenmuth, Michigan, with her husband, Frank. She found great joy in dressing up as Mrs. Clause at different events. One thing was for sure, she could never keep a present a secret and always wanted to give it to them ahead of time. She will be remembered for the love she shared for her children and grandchildren, as she always wanted to be remembered as the cool “Meeme.”
The family wants to thank all the staff and doctors at SpringMeade Health Center for the tremendous care they received.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Frank Schaaf Jr, her son, Matthew “Matt” Schaaf; her parents, Charles and V. Eileen Risko and one sister, Angela Risko. She is survived by her two daughters, Angela Schaaf and Kelley (Mitch) Thornsbury; grandchildren, Kyle (Kasey) Wilkinson, Logan (Amanda) Wilkinson, Kaylee Thornsbury, Connor Wilkinson; one brother, John (Alicia) Risko; numerous nieces and nephews; and four great friends, Pam Stafford, Peggy Yancey, Barb Lawrence and Anne Brady.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, at Conner and Koch Funeral Home in Bellbrook. A celebration of life service will immediately follow the visitation at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Brian Newell will officiate the service. Condolences are at www.connerandkoch.com.
