Frederick, Chief Richard
72, of Bellbrook, passed away Sat. Dec. 6, 2014. He was born Aug. 4, 1942 in Dayton to Ilo Emmer (Hole) and Sylvester Charles Frederick. He earned a Bachelors of Science Degree in Education from Cumberland College in 1965. Richard worked as a Math & Science teacher for Sugarcreek Local Schools in Bellbrook from 1965-1971. From 1969-1971, he was a patrol officer for Sugarcreek Township before receiving a Masters Degree of Public Administration in 1979 from the University of Dayton. He served the City of Bellbrook as its Chief of Police from 1971-1994 followed by the city’s Project Manager. Chief served over 30 years in law enforcement, 23 years of which were at the department management level of a municipal police department. He was a member of the International Association of Chief’s of Police, the Ohio Association of Chief’s of Police, and the Greene County Law Enforcement Association. Chief Frederick was a former member/chairman of the Bellbrook-Sugarcreek Disaster Board, the AAA Board, Dare Program, Bellbrook Optimist & the Bellbrook Lions Club. Richard was a beloved Chief which was reciprocated by his love for Bellbrook. He enjoyed ballooning and held an LTA Pilot’s License since 1982. He also enjoyed playing poker and euchre, gardening, cooking and canning. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Ruth Eileen Frederick & Henrietta Louise Frederick, and brother Robert Lavon Frederick. Richard is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jeanne (Moore) Frederick, three sons Wesley, Brandon (Carin) and Aaron, three grandchildren Ryan, Lauren and Krue, two step granddaughters Mackenzie and Katie Garnet, one brother David Frederick (Ann), numerous nieces and nephews, and his dog Seamus, aka Buscuit. The family will receive friends Fri. Dec. 12th from 4-7 pm at CONNER & KOCH Life Celebration Home, 92 W. Franklin St., Bellbrook (937-848-6651). You are also invited to a life celebration 11:00 am Saturday at CONNER & KOCH. Burial will be in Bellbrook Cemetery. In memory of Chief Frederick, contributions may be made to the Bellbrook Police Dept., Diabetes Association, Kidney Foundation, or Hospice of Dayton. Envelopes are available at CONNER & KOCH.
